Why don't you have an ssl certificate for secured transactions?
As this is a read-only website which does not use credit cards or any other user-initiated protocols, there is no need for secured https security procedures.
Why then have a login and password?
If you are not logged in, the website will not let you download large gedcom or pdf files, although it will allow you to download small files. If you are not logged in, the website will not show you information on living people. Although only a very small percentage of people in the database are living, the bigger issue is that the website is not too smart on identifying living people. For example, some people without a birth date or death date will be considered as living. Even if we know that they passed on long ago! As there are some people listed without any info in their birth or death fields, you will not be able to see information on those people without logging in. Even though you can see pretty much all of the database without logging in, you will have a better and more complete experience by logging in.
How do I get a login ID and Password?
Click on the ”login“ button at the top of the page. Then click on ”Register for a new user account“. You will also be able to change your password whenever you like. Your password is encrypted and is not stored on the website. Neither I nor anyone else would have access to it.
What happens if I forget my user ID and/or password?
If you forget your User ID and/or password, simply click on the ”login“ button and follow the directions to get your user ID emailed to you or to get a new password.
How do I add someone to the website? Or change information on someone already in the website? Or add new information to someone already in the website?
All that you need to do is email the information on the person or persons you would like to add or the information to be added or corrected to rfelsing@kukkus.com. Additions or changes can take some time depending upon how busy I am.
